About the SINGER 404
Sewing machine
The SINGER 404 is a straight-stitch machine with reverse, launched in 1958. It is built on a die-cast aluminium body with a gear drive and an internal motor and light, and its needle is angled toward the operator so the stitching is easier to see. It takes a Class 66 bobbin that drops in horizontally in front of the needle, slant-shank presser feet and 15x1 needles. US production ended about two years after launch; in Europe a 404G was built at SINGER's Karlsruhe factory.
