A ruffler can help prepare a repeated gathered or pleated edge, but a useful sample needs more than an attractive first few folds. You need to know which attachment fits, which pieces are supplied and how much fabric your chosen setup consumes.
Reference P60330 identifies an Old Style replacement ruffler for BERNINA applications. Before fitting it, confirm whether your setup needs an adapter and which pieces are included with the exact item you choose.
Match the attachment before choosing settings

Supported Old Style examples include BERNINA 830 Record and 1008. Keep the complete model wording and required attachment in the check. The examples do not establish a fit for every BERNINA, every machine called 830, or every model in a numerical range.
“Old Style” describes the attachment interface here. It does not describe the sale item's condition or establish that a replacement was manufactured by BERNINA.
Record the accessory reference and any required adapter separately. A photograph of an assembled attachment does not establish that every offer contains the same adapter. If one piece is missing, identify it before choosing settings or attempting to fit the assembly.
Use the instructions supplied for the exact attachment and machine. Another accessory's foot number, adjustment marks or demonstration video does not establish the same fitting procedure. This evidence does not establish P60330 as equivalent to BERNINA Ruffler #86.
Decide what the sample must tell you
Start with the edge length your project needs and the appearance you want. Keep two questions separate: whether you like the folds, and whether the prepared strip will be long enough for its destination.
Use the project's intended fabric and thread. Mark a measurable working section on a scrap, leaving extra fabric outside the marks for starting and finishing. Measuring only that marked section keeps the lead-in and trailing fabric out of the calculation.
Follow the machine manual's power-off procedure when fitting the attachment. Confirm the complete assembly, permitted stitch and safe clearance using the applicable instructions. Do not force a part or use a setting whose clearance has not been established.
Measure the fullness instead of guessing the cutting length

After sewing the sample, compare the original length between your marks with the finished length of that same section, without stretching or compressing it to reach a preferred number.
Divide the original marked length by its finished length to describe the sample's fullness ratio. For example, if a hypothetical 20cm marked section finishes at 10cm, its measured ratio is 2:1. That example is arithmetic, not a recommended setting or a tested performance result for P60330.
Record both lengths rather than keeping only the ratio. Also note the exact attachment, fabric, thread and permitted settings used. Do not assume that the same ratio will result from another fabric or attachment.
Before using the ratio to plan a full strip, make another sample. Keep the project's seam allowances and finishing requirements separate from the measured working section; the sample calculation alone does not determine every cutting allowance.
Inspect spacing, depth and usable length separately
Lay the sample as it will be used and compare:
- Appearance: do the folds suit the project along the whole marked section?
- Consistency: is the effect reasonably repeatable rather than satisfactory only at the start?
- Usable length: does the measured result support the strip length you need to prepare?
Use only the adjustments documented for your exact attachment. Change one permitted setting at a time and record it before comparing another scrap. A fuller-looking result and a shorter finished strip are observations to record together, not reasons to force fabric through the attachment.
If the project joins the prepared strip to another piece, make a separate joining sample using the relevant construction instructions. A successful free-standing sample does not establish the appearance or length of the joined seam.
Before ordering
Confirm the complete model, P60330 reference, required attachment, whether your setup needs an adapter, current included pieces and the instructions you will use. Keep supplied-unit origin and availability separate from the technical fitment check.
For an identification question, contact Sewlume with the full model, offered reference and a photo of the existing fitting as it is. No disassembly is needed initially; crop the serial number from a label photo unless support specifically needs it.
